keep getting "restart windows before installing new programs"

Tennessee Chris Posts: 4 Rating: (0)	When I attemp to install any S-7 software I get this promt from the simatic install. Now matter how many times I restart I get the same thing. Can anyone help me?

Hi Tennessee, I have had that also with a HP notebook, the trick is that the notebook didn't deinstall the installation software, I think that HP spool the software from a server into the notebooks. And on yhay server is laying something that must be deinstalled by the next startup of the notebook. But the next startup is by the customer where the server is not reachable.... [:(] The Siemens software looks very well if there is something to deinstall and find the software from HP that have to be deinstalled on the next startup... but this software is on the server thats not reachable.... and so on... [:P] So the trick is to getof that software by using the FAQ, for me this had worked fine.[8)]

In the "Services" disable all. Restart PC and install S-7 software. Re-enable all services and restart PC.

You can disable all services, BUT you need to leave the service called 'Windows Installer' running or you can't install programs. Hence the name. And I did have an HP laptop too, weird thing is that I have 4 the same. #1. Gave me no issues at all. #2. Installed after 1 reboot. #3. Installed after several reboots and deleting all in the %temp% folder. #4. I had to use the option listed above. All were opened @ the same time, had the same version of the OS and same software. weird.

KayBee Posts: 241 Rating: (7)	Hi, same problem I also have faced faced when I tryed to Install STEP7 V5.3 into my HP Compaq nx6120 laptop.But problem was only when I tryed to install STEP7 V5.3.Finally I had to install STEP 7 V5.2 and now I am working on it.So it looks something in the V5.3 not HP laptop... thankx

LEastburn Posts: 12 Rating: (1)	Excellent information from all. I have one other item to add. I have had several cases in which the Windows Installer seemed to be the cause of the error. I had tried unregistering and re-registering but found one note from Microsoft helpful. Article ID 888109 on support.microsoft.com. It also led to another article on updating Installshied. On consumerdocs.installshield.com, doc ID Q108322. I had to reinstall ISScript10.msi and after that things installed fine.
