Hello, I'm currently trying to setup a system using the following PROFINET devices: S7-1500R and SIMOCODE pro V PN. I'm also using some MODICON manageable switches. These switches support MRP but are not PROFINET IO devices and consequently, do not have a GSD file available. I would like to implement an architecture (see picture attached) with a MRP ring using the 2 MODICON switches. Because they are not PROFINET IO devices, I cannot have them in TIA Portal and they cannot be displayed in the topology view but this is not an issue for the purpose of my test. I looked through different documents, but I could not find information whether the switches used in a MRP PROFINET system must be PROFINET IO Devices or if "normal" switches like the MODICON can be used as long as they support MRP. In the following post,Media Redundancy Protocol without Scalance Switches - 165028 - Industry Support Siemens, I saw a reply stating that you "need switches which support PROFINET MRP and have a GSDML file". Does anyone agree with the above? Is it mandatory to use PROFINET IO switches to have a proper MRP ring? Thanks. |
