Hello Everyone, I have a site where there is 16 stations (about 100 m distance between each) and each station has 8 DI signals to be monitored and values sent to a main plc that is about 1 to 1.5 km away, there is wired connection (fiber) between each of the stations and the main plc. (attached a brief small drawing) What is the best way to send this data from all the stations to the PLC?
-If I used a plc on each station we will have to program and diagnose the 16 plcs and this is not the best thing to do. -Can I use ET200M based remote I/Os for each station and connect all 16 to a switch in the control room? would this type of switch allow for PN I/O connections/signals? -If I use ET200M with profibus for each station, should I connect the stations together also to complete the network or is there some type of a hub that I can connect the seperate Profibus wires coming from each station to it and then connect the profibus cable from plc to the hub? Thank you AttachmentSystem.pdf (36 Downloads) |

Hej, I would use also ET200M stations. You could use Profibus as well as Profinet. For Profibus and Fibre optics you need OLMs: https://support.industry.siemens.com/cs/pd/498604?pdti=td&lc=en-DE For Profinet you could use for example a scalance switch with fibre optics: https://support.industry.siemens.com/cs/de/en/pv/6GK5204-2BB00-2AA3/td You should build up a ring topology. That's possible for Profibus as well as for Profinet. You will find informations for Profibus Ring in OLM instruction: https://support.industry.siemens.com/cs/de/en/view/59884186 And for Ethernet ring: https://support.industry.siemens.com/cs/de/en/view/33696406 |

hi AUTOMOTO21, I guess you should use some OLM, or Repeater for this. between the stations you could use Profibus with respective speed. Maybe this manuals/FAQ´s help you: SIMATIC NET PROFIBUS Optical Link Module OLM / P11 V4.0 OLM / P12 V4.0 OLM / P22 V4.0 OLM / P11 V4.0 OLM / G12 V4.0 OLM / G22 V4.0 OLM / G12-EEC V4.0 OLM / G11-1300 V4.0 OLM / G12-1300 V4.0 Operating InstructionsWhich manuals are available to download from Industry Online Support regarding the diagnostic repeater and the RS 485 repeater?Acceptable line length in PROFIBUS-DP networkshope this helps, regards, |

Thank you very much for your reply, I am sorry but I am still a beginner on this scope. The OLM here is used to convert profibus to oprical? "optical link module" , you mean on each site I can buy an OLM, but the thing is how to connect all sites to the PLC ? do the sites need to be connected to each other in a ring topology? so I cannot just connect the sites seperately to the PLC using the switch on plc side (the switch has to have 16 optical ports) ? Thanks again

please read the pdf of this link: You will find informations for Profibus Ring in OLM instruction: https://support.industry.siemens.com/cs/de/en/view/59884186 There you will find the answers to your questions even with pictures. I would use a ring topology because its redundant. One wire could break and you could communicate even with this error with every et200M |
