Need to Update the firmware firmware of S7 412-5H redundant CPU

Yash_Shekar Posts: 17 Rating: (0)	Dear Experts, We need to Update the firmware of S7 412-5H redundant CPUs from V6.0.1 to V6.0.6(latest). I learnt that there are 3 methods of doing this- a. using memory card b. without using memory card c. In "RUN" mode. My question here is- Can we update the firmware without Shutting down or Stopping the CPU? Because the plant operation is critical and cannot be interrupted even for a minute. Please let me know if this possible.. Thanks

From the document i understood that we can update the OS firmware in Run mode by stopping one CPU. In this case when we stop one CPU, won't the other running CPU stop due to Synchronization Error ? Also, the document says to restart the CPU at the end. Should we restarts the CPUs one after the other? or restart both at once?

Regards, Towome Thank you Towome for ur reply. Can we update firmware from V6.0.1 to V6.0.6 in one shot ? Or we should go from V6.0.1 to V6.02 and then from V6.0.2 to V6.0.3 so on till V6.0.6 ?

For doing in one shot we used the following scenario. This worked well for us but I can not give a guarantee for that and you will have some seconds without process control doing this: Stop the left PLC Unplug the Sync-Cables (we should mark which cable is the upper and which is the lower one) Update of the Firmware of the left PLC (we need the Flash-card for this) Download HW-Config, NetPro + Charts from the new ES to the left PLC (which is still in Stop) Stop the right PLC The Process is now Shutdown Start the left PLC Process is now running with the new version (till this point we have as a backup the right PLC with the “old” version in Stop) Do the Firmware-Update on the right PLC Turn off the right PLC Plug in the Sync-Cables Turn on the right PLC and put it in RunàIt will be synchronized and the redundant system is running in the new version Regrads Myst

I will give it a try. Do we need to not make any changes either in the PLC program or in hardware config, before unplugging the Sync cable from the CPU ?
