Problem replacing a slot module in ET200S

Some modules in one ET200S dont match with the physical modules, so I am trying to replace the wrong modules with the correct ones. With some modules I have not problem, but in one case after I replace one 4DI module I cant compile the project anymore. The Error code 256:31 apears, but give me no information where is the problem. Also after this change I made Im not able to compile the proect even if I insert the previous module again, neither delete it or delete the whole ET200S because the same Error code appears. The device I use is ET200S 6ES7 151-1AA04-0AB0 I will preciate some help.

fritz Diamond Expert Joined: 10/7/2005 Last visit: 10/10/2024 Posts: 3024 Rating: (1054)	Hello lean you didn't say which DI card you added to your ET200S. Please make sure it does exist in the module catalogue underneath your IM1516ES7 151-1AA04-0AB0 (i.e. if it doesn't then it can't be used with that IM151 and you most likely created the problem by dragging it in from a module catalogue of a different IM151). If the above is NOT the problem please try<CTRL>+<ALT>+<F11> in your HWconfig. I honestly can't tell you what this does, but this is the remedy according to the error code list which you can find here: Which meaning have the error codes (xxxx:yyyy) in STEP 7? I hope this helps and please let us know the outcome

With this module, I can compile my project without problem. The problem is if I change the module for another one or even the same module, or delete the modules, I cant compile again. I tried with ctrl+alt+f11, but nothing changed. I found in the menu View->Adresses this module has asigned 2 addresses: one is the address set in the module E 106 and the other is E 0. I dont know why it has assigned the address 0, from where come this assignement. Also for this module I cant change the "process image", only for this one if I make a copy of this module and paste in the same ET200S I can change the "process image". Hope find a solution.

fritz Diamond Expert Joined: 10/7/2005 Last visit: 10/10/2024 Posts: 3024 Rating: (1054)	Hello again lean hmmm, this starts to sound like a case for Moulder & Scully, but since the "truth is out there" let's see if we can find it (all of this is from the X-Files for those of you who are not familiar with this slogan). To do so, I'd like you to post your S7 project to see if I (and/or others) can reproduce the problem. You can cut out all the "unimportant" stuff (e.g. integrated WinCC orflex andlogic Blocks) to keep the file size down if need be. Pleaselet us know too which Step 7 version you are using. As for your process image issue (and possibly your problem), I wonder if it is related to packing of addresses of the DI's (even though I am unableto reproduce it). By default every4 DI (or 4 DQ) ET200S module occupies addresses x.0 to 0.3 when dragged into the ET200S. Since thisleads to inefficient use of addresses ( x.4 to x.7of the same byte are "wasted") you can select a number of DI (or DQ cards) and use the "Pack Addresses" button to (well) pack the addresses (i.e. first 4 DI card then uses addresses x.0 to 0.3 and the next uses x.4 to x.7of the same byte). Since the Process image is set for a wholebyte address, you won't be allowed to change this for any "packed" card which uses bitaddresses x.4 to x.7 (it is now done on its partner card with x.0 to 0.3 addresses).

This is what I did: I replaced the wrong module with the correct one, and saved the HW configuration, even without been able to compile the project. After in the simatic manager I went to the menu "File->Save as", and selected the option "with reorganization (slow)". After I saved the project and opened the HW configuration and finally I could compile the project. Problem fixed. Really it was something rare, I think it was a problem in S7.
