Problem with counter module changing

I hade problem with my encoder-and desided to change counter module , but after changing module I see that encoder reading not changing?? before when I turn encoder I could see changes in PLC but now frozen number...May be we have some way to reset this or prosedure for changing counter module? Please help. Regards Kanan
