Morning, Probably a stupid idea but.. We currently have 107 Pumps controlled via Profibus (3 Segments). When the profibus network drops off the shift guys have to slowly split the circuit to find the faulty pump/connector. I was wondering if anyone had done a remote active terminator switch circuit? So the operator could split the circuit remotely to identify the segment for the shift guys? Obviously the impedance of the circuit increases but due to the circuit already using harting plugs to connect a section of pumps I didn't think it would be horrendous to add 4 relays in the circuit. See drawing attached. Cheers :) AttachmentProfibus relay.pdf (125 Downloads) |

Hello Matty; I have not seen this type pf circuit used to diagnose a Profibus network yet, maybe some one else can offer suggestions. Normally we use the master's diagnostic capabilities to identify a faulty node, and it generally works well, unless terminations are not adequately turned on and powered at the end of the segments (in that case the master is flooded with diagnostic message from the network). With Siemens S7 PLCs, the diagnostic buffer is a very competent tool, when used along with OB 86. Siemens also offered a FB 125 (or FB 126) for Profibus failure detection (with Step 7 v5.x) that presented a grid on the Siemens HMIs identifying lost Profibus nodes. FB 126: Diagnostic package PNIODiag for diagnostic evaluation for PROFIBUS DP and PROFINET IO (STEP 7 V5.x) https://support.industry.siemens.com/cs/ww/en/view/98278878 Sample program: history for failed slaves https://support.industry.siemens.com/cs/ww/en/view/2289283 Other brands of PLCs have their own procedure for lost Profibus node detection, a Controllogix master (from Prosoft) requires you examine a status bit dedicated to each node to see which one has turned ON, but it is enough to see which node is defective. What procedure does your Profibus master implement? Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier |
