reading BCD input data from absolute encoder

Hi, 

I'm using 1215C cpu for position control, I have an absolute rotary encoder (Autonics, 1024, BCD output, 13bit) I don't know how can I read BCD code from encoder by my CPU inputs. is there any block to read 13bit data from input port?

This encoder has 13 parallel binary lines BCD coded. Simply connect them to 13 consecutive binary inputs:

I x+1.0 - I x+1.4 and I x.0 - I x.7 and you are done.

myEncoderBCD:=%Wx AND W#16#1FFF;

maybe add this too.. (use one of the two)

I have connected 13 bit encoder output to directly to input port of PLC (I0.0, I0.1, I0.2 ... I1.4)  and also I have read the digital inputs by saving to Memory (MW1) bit by bit. refer to atachment photos.

my problem is: when I rotate encoder's shaft the inputs of PLC doesn't change at all.

Ahmad,

Please check if the inputs (IW0 or I0.0 - I1.4) change when the encoder moves. Make sure that the encoder is working as expected then the Forum can help you sort the code.

I have tried a lot to drive this encoder and finally understood the encoder phase was burned ( the encoder was new and i didn't expect to face with problem such as this). I'm trying to solve encoder's hardware problem.

Ahmad - Sorry to hear about your trouble. I think our friend huggy_d1 has a valuable comment.. please make sure about the voltages that drives the encoder.

It is 24vdc and i have connected the encoder to the right voltage(24v).

the encoder hardware had problem from factory.
