reverse current flow detection

AHMED ZAKI Regular Member Joined: 3/25/2012 Last visit: 12/1/2023 Posts: 40 Rating: (0)	I Have an inverter with 3Q-motor and i have problem that : when the current sudden cut off the inverter was damaged. i think this because of the reverse feed back voltage was very high from the motor to drive (motor second quadrent) my question is: are there any element that can detect current reverse flow (between inverter and motor) ? what's the name ??? if not: are there any other solution to provent this current from generated or damage drive?? i hope help me soooon many thanks

king_1985 Posts: 109 Rating: (11)	Both things are different If energy is generated from Inertia of motor - that is Regeneration and for that either you required regenerative drive or Breaking resistor along with chopper control (depend upon which drive you have) And if your drive is getting blew because of switching, then its because of transient voltage generated due to this switching Hope its clear to you

(as more simple and inexpensive) and if the drive is getting blow because of switching, what the prefered solution to prevent this damage??

I agree with king_1985 And both cases are not same Switching transients are high enough to damage inverter components, where as Regenerative power will be without such spikes May be output reactor can help somewhat In any case you should not directly cutoff the current instead go for either OFF2 command or normal Ramp stop using OFF1 Regards, Devesh Vithani

How this happens? Is there any fault or because of failuer of DIs the problem was faced? Can you provide the MLFB number of invertor? In case of invertor it is common that during stoping or ramp down time, in case of heavy load intertia motor acts as generator & feds power back. Butin this case, this power should be fed back to power system. To avoid damages, DBR with chokes are used as suggested by other experts. In your case I suggest youto provide external electro-mechanical or electromagnetic or electro-hydraulic brakes to motor which will stop motor immediately & logic should be such way that brake should be applied as soon as ramp down starts. Hope this helps.
