In the presentation, a Siemens representative showed the launch timeline (screenshot attached) where it also mentioned the phase-out of the old s7-1200 by end of 2026 and cancellation by end of 2027. When pressed on those dates she confirmed them to be accurate. I tried to find extra information on the siemens website and the rest of the internet but couldn't find anything anywhere. There was an phaseout for S7-1200 V3.0. But I can imagine that the 1st generation will soon be discontinued now that G2 is available. Ask your Siemens sales partner for more informations. The coin could drop either way when it comes to the truth of the matter. Those discontinuation dates sounds like fear mongering. A way to push sales to a product that is yet unproven in the market / field. Forcing upon the client to buy G1 as stock, redesign new projects and buy (possibly unstable) Step7 V20. No wonder you are coming to the forum for clarification. It would be nice to get an answer from a source that does not benefit from the extra sales generated by taking the information on face value. As it is, our local Siemens branch was not even aware of the G2 when we asked them. Nobody has come back to us with information since then. I wonder what the lead times are of the G2?.. Better than the G1? ~ I am predicting that the Unified HMIs may be pushed onto us in the same way. The Unified HMI is a difficult transition from the Basic HMI. Customers like stability in a brand. Or at least predictability.

Not that I can say it would influence our designs much. Chapter called "Comparison to S7-1200" in the system manual. [LINK: S7-1200 G2 Programmable controller] Interestingly - notice that the NFC functionality needs an app running on iPhone at the 'client' side.

Also, besides the software differences, the new versions are higher and deeper in size even without the connectors plugged in. So if your electrical cabinets are sized for an old 1200 and you didn't leave enough extra headroom, they won't fit in the same space.

It lies flat against DIN rail mounted inside a 2U rack-mounted enclosure. If it sticks up above the enclosure, it will not rack in, and so cannot be used as a replacement. We already know S7-1500's are not suitable because of their dept as well. The low profile was nice for this little application. Not long after we used the s7-1200, we started looking elsewhere for a scaled down version and settled on the Logo! family (with ethernet). Nice low profile for that particular low I/O count application. G2 S7-1200 is still not fully developed with all modules available, and some gaping holes for those transitioning from S7-1200 G1. Although, having 2 signal boards looks nice. S.bracke As I understood it, the Android NFC app and OPC-UA would release with Tia V21, so end of 2025.
