S7300 and 4 serial interfaces

Info1 Posts: 23 Rating: (0)	Hi, We want to communicate to 4 separate weigh scales using serial interface. Yes we could use 4 serial cards but we have limited panel space and dont want to use more than 1 rack and have I/O to add also. I am aware of s7 300ptp plcs with 2 portsetc but preferably all we need is the smallest plc(a 312). It seems like a bit of overkill that 4 serial inputs requires 4 cards. Is there any module available that can pick up numerous serial inputs, without the need for 4 separate cards. We had looked at an s7 1200 plc but that will only allow use of 3 serial cards. fritz Diamond Expert Joined: 10/7/2005 Last visit: 11/5/2024 Posts: 3026 Rating: (1055)	Hello Info1 only the S7-400 has a two channel CP441-2 serial interface module avilable but going down this path would be cost prohibitive. The best advise I can give you is to consider using an ET200S IM151-7 CPU with 4 off 1SI serial interface modules (6ES7138-4DF01-0AB0). I haven't done the costing of it but you will hopefully find that this is the most cost and space efficient solution. I hope this helps

miami Platinum Expert Joined: 8/31/2005 Last visit: 10/22/2024 Posts: 2198 Rating: (328)	Did you notice the ET200S modules? ET200S 1SI,RS232/422/485,3964R ET200S 1SI,RS232/422/485 MODBUS Maybe a ET200S station with this modules is a solution for you.

Info1 Posts: 23 Rating: (0)	Thanks for that info but I think that IM module has its own limitiations. We want to fit our I/O on one rack. We require 8AI, 2 AO, 10DO and 4 serial ports, anda DP coupler. I dont think the IM will be able to fit all the modules on one rack, whereas an S7300 can.

S7-300: 1CPU (4cm) + 4 serial interfaces (16cm) +1AI (4cm) + 1AQ(4cm) + 1DQ (4cm). This will give you a total width of 32cm ET200S: CPU (6cm) + 1 Power module (1.5cm) + 4serial interfaces (6cm) + 4AI (6cm) + 1AQ (1.5cm) + 2DQ (3cm). This will give you a total width of 24cm. Tim de Bruin Posts: 14 Rating: (4)	Hello H-H (and Info1), Info1 mentioned that he also wants to place a DP/DP-coupler. This could indicate that he needs a PB-master within the cabinet. The 151-7 (ET200S CPU) can only act as Slave in a PB-network, unless a PB-master interface is added to the configuration. Your calculation of the total ET200S width lacks the PB-master interface. This would add ? cm to the total station width. BUT... If a 151-7 CPU (ET200S) is used,Master-Slave communication with the higher system can be defined. Then neither a PB-master interfacenor a DP/DP-coupler is needed. The transfer of data iseven cyclic! Same as using a DP/DP-coupler... Come to thinkof it, you're initial calculation is right when using an ET200S CPU in the cabinet wich is defined as Slave in the higherPB-network. It even might save the space needed for the DP/DP-coupler. Kind Regards, Tim

Q121 Posts: 17 Rating: (0)	Been doing alot of research on this at the moment, why not use the CP341 expansion card and communicate to the devices via RS485? or are the devices all RS232?
