Simatic S5 CPU 941 communication with HMI

Dear Members,

I am new to S5 series PLC, In one of my application, I need to communicate S5 6ES5942-7UA12/   or S5 6ES5941-7UA12 PLC with HMI(PC based or others), Please suggest Hardware and Software for visualization (PC based or HMI) and essentials to build a connection.

do you have a Profibus-module in your PLC-station?

You can connect to HMI or other with different interfaces

• AS511
• RS232
• Profibus or SINEC L1 /L2

There are a lot of possibilities. The necessary hardware is dependent of the available interface.

Please tell us a little bit more about your hardware and also what do you want to do with the HMI.

the CPU have as standard a AS511 interface.
Otherwise can you also use a adapter TTY-RS485/422.
then you can connect also "newer" panels.

Which panel do you want to use?

Preferably  PC based RT software like Wincc Flexible etc. Is it possible with this S5 941 or 942 CPU? or another option is to use Siemens COmfort panel

What hardware /modules other than CPU is needed?

so far I know (actually I have no WinCC flexible) could you configure a S5-cmmunication at the Runtime.

The hardware which you need is a adapter to TTY maybe from RS232 or other, so can you connect the PC with your CPU.

The only "problem" is when you use the PG-interface ihat you can only connect a HMI or a programming cable.

If you need both then you need a multiplexer (PG-Mux or PG-MUX II)
You should look for this part at Google.

Communication performance of AS511:

Don't expect a fast data exchange between the S5 and the HMI when using AS511.

In order to increase the performance arrange all data in one area without big gaps and don't spread it over the whole address memory of the CPU if possible.
