slow reaction after inactivity period

Vince64 Posts: 3 Rating: (0)	I have WinCC client based on microbox PC 427, WinXP embedded, and Wincc V7. We have converted an application in WinCC V5 to this new configuration. Works correctly, but as we remain about 30 min without making any command on screen, the first command after that quiet period is very slow to execute. The commands just after reacts normally. Only this first command after a "standby period" is slower. We looked thebios-setup of the microbox, the power settings in panel configuration of Windowsand the display otpionbut found no time-outconfigured. During this period without command, animation of variable in picture is still refreshed. Only the first command is slower (for example changing picture with button in the upper bar). Operators wonder if the system reacts correctly, and then click 2 or 3 time to be sure that the command will pass. I read the documentation of the microbox, and the FAQ but find no idea to cancel this delay. There is a server between the microbox and the PLC, but on the server, the commandreacts immediatly. Have you any idea for me Thanks

If so, the CPU will reduce it's speed (see "speed stepping") when system is idle. When you then start any action on the system, the CPU has to reactivate it's state to full speed. This is what might cause the system to be slow.

TomDeWou Platinum Member Joined: 11/15/2006 Last visit: 5/7/2021 Posts: 1319 Rating: (174)	The option itself is hidden inside the power options (right click on desktop > properties > screen saver > power > power scheme). But anyway, the Celeron M processor lacks the SpeedStep technology, what means it does not reduce the clock speed. So I guess it is something else that causes the system to be slow. You could use several tools to find out what is happening. At first, have a look at the task manager and sort the running tasks (processes) by "CPU". There you can see the tasks on top which takes most of the CPU at the moment. If the system is idle, the "system idle process" has up to 99% of CPU ressources. Is it the same on your system or is there any other task using the ressources? Then, you could use performance monitor (START > RUN > Perfmon.exe). There you could watch the system performance and many other system informations. But you should read about it in the internet first. Additional to that you can use a tool called CPUZ to see the CPU clock speed - watch it while the system is idle, too.
