SmartTags(var with string of name) accessing faceplate tags fails

Eindhoven Posts: 17 Rating: (2)	Hi Siemens and experts, In a faceplate, i have created a script and faceplate-local tags. I am hoping to access these tags by means of SmartTags(), so i can easily iterate over them. The code does however not respond as expected. [code]Dim i 'iterator Dim s 'string for storing the tag's name Dim v 'storage for the value the tag contains i = 1 s = "Properties\someString" & i & "someMoreString" v = SmartTags(s)[/code] The script stops execution on the last step. Found this out by setting another internal tag and displaying this on the faceplate, incrementing it on various positions in the script. Also, assigning s to an faceplate-internal-string-tag and displaying this on the faceplate indicates the expected contents "someString1someMoreString". Replacing the last line with v = SmartTag("someString1someMoreString") does work. The SmartTag(s) works in a "global" HMI script as well. Is there any explanation for this, does anywone recognise this problem and/or is there an workaround? Kind regards and thanks for your time in advance. Edit: The offending tag is a member of the faceplate properties, changed code example to reflect this. Edit 2: Corrected the command name from "SmartTag" to "SmartTags".

Eindhoven Posts: 17 Rating: (2)	This afternoon i had contact with Siemens Tech support about this problem. Appearently it is a known problem and should be fixed in the new service pack or update. The update is not scheduled soon tough...

Bugger Posts: 3 Rating: (0)	I have had this problem for some time now and have not seen a fix for this though it has been promised for several years. It gives a system error "Error no tag "MyStringVariable" in line ##. Unfortunately, I am not just iterating but am using it for a search routine. I cannot just write out the multiple iterations because I am passing a string for the variable to be searched(as a smart tag) and it is not being recognized. I noticed that if I use the variable on the other side of the equal signs and assign it to a value, it now recognizes it even in the following line. It seems there should be someway of making the processor recognize the tag without having to overwrite it.

Bugger Posts: 3 Rating: (0)	I have discovered, by accident, that if you first use the statement If VarType(TagAsString) > 0 then NoOp = 0 End If SmartTags(TagsAsString) = Value that the system will recognize the variable and then will accept it on the left side of the equal sign in later uses of the variable. TagAsString is a string representation of the value that you want to access with smartTags NoOp is used just to satisfy that there is something for the conditional to do

olivluca Advanced Member Joined: 5/22/2019 Last visit: 8/9/2022 Posts: 43 Rating: (0)	I found out that variables in a faceplate will generate a variable in the global namespace of the form <variable_name>_<instance_name>_<screen_name>_<variable_id>_<faceplate_id> variable_id is a different number for each variable, faceplate_id is the same number for every element in the same faceplate. The bug is that SmartTags inside a faceplate should look for this generated name, e.g. TagName="Pepe" SmartTags(TagName) should look for "Pepe"_<instance_name>_<screen_name>_<variable_id>_<faceplate_id> instead of plain "Pepe". I can easily determine instance_name and screen_name but it's not possible to know in advance variable_id and faceplate_id, only Siemens can fix that, but I guess they won't: they only add new broken features and never fix anything.
