H-H Platinum Member Joined: 7/2/2008 Last visit: 9/30/2024 Posts: 928 Rating: (309)	Since you asked about basic differences between software redundancy (warm standby) and hardware redundancy (Hot standby and it is calledH-system in Siemens), the answer will be regarding the basic differences. 1- Switching time is few seconds in software redundancy while it is in msec in H-system. 2- Redundant link between CPUs can be MPI, Profibus or Ethernet (No synchronizationbetweenCPUs) while it is fiberopticcommunication in H-system which gives the ability toCPUsto be fully synchronized. 3- In software redundancy you can load 2 different programs on CPUs while in H-system you dealwith both CPUs as a single one. 4- You must use ET200M in software redundancy while you can use anything in H-system if youwill use Y-Link. 5- You can't have redundant I/Os in software redundancy while you can have them in H-system. Best regards. Hello, I would like to clarify something on what Mr. H-H wrote. In S/W redundancy and as you have no choice except of ET200 M distribuited I/Os you should use the Red-Bundle for each expantion I/O rack. Red Bundle consist of two IM153-2 + one Bus unit IM/IM. More over you should use active bus units for I/O modules. This solution is valid also for S7-400H (i.e. HW redundancy) but in case of using high number of I/O expansion racks, we always go to Y-Link solution and deals with single profibus and then there will be no need for the red-bundles or bus units. Regards, This is not quite accurate. I had a discussion with Siemens staff before and they said it's not recommended at all to use ET200M after a Y-Link. I also had a discussion with ET200iSP tehc. support and said the same, it's not recommended to use ET200iSP after Y-Link. It is possible but not recommended. The Y-Link isa solutionfor DP-Slaves with single DP port but for ET200M and ET200 iSPit should be2 interface modules in each remote rack. Best regards.
