Good day everyone. We had some fun (sarcasm) in the office today, trying to create a transfer card for the S7-1200 PLC. If you allow me to share this with you it might save you from some frustration. BACKGROUND PLC programs can be loaded onto an MMC type memory card. The card can be configured as a PROGRAM or TRANSFER type card for this functionality. Following explains a little about these without going into too much detail. For more detail, I would refer you to the System Manual. PROGRAM type card This method is used when you want the card to permanently be inserted into the PLC. The PLC can't function without the card. For the client this is an advantage if he has a damaged PLC he can remove the MMC card and place it in another PLC and be up and running in a short time. Builders have some security with the client convenience. The load memory size is also expanded to the size of the card. TRANSFER type card The program is loaded onto the card. When the card is inserted into a PLC (special procedure), the program is loaded into the PLC. The PLC retain the program even if the card is removed. There is no risk that the card will be damaged if the PLC has a catastrophic failure, because the card is not there. The client can transfer the program to another PLC without issue. The trouble is however that the client can program as many PLCs as he wants to. MAKING A TRANSFER CARD We needed to make a TRANSFER type card with a 12MB MMC card using TIA13 aimed for S7-1200,CPU1214, firmware 4. The original procedures for making such a card is explained in the attached PDF. The PDF is an extract of the System Manual of the S7-1200 (FW4). The procedure as written down.. does not work. What works (look at PDF attachment also).. * Follow the directions on page 127 * Do steps 1 to 3 on page 128 * The MMC card will be marked as [unknown] type. * YOU CAN SKIP OVER STEP 4 * Do steps 5 to 7 as directed * The MMC card is now marked as [PROGRAM] type. * DO STEP 4 NOW. * Check in Windows Explorer if the files has been transfered correctly. * "Eject" the card (Windows) * Test the card on a PLC to make sure all are as expected. If step 4 is done in sequence as directed it does not stay that way. As soon as the program is dragged-and-dropped onto the card, the MMC card becomes a [PROGRAM] type. The problem is that the card type description is not always refreshed so it might still show [TRANSFER], which it is not. Follow the points listed in (*) and it should help you to avoid the frustrations we had. I hope someone finds this helpful. Commentary and sharing of experience is welcomed. w AttachmentExtract_Create a transfer card for S7-1200.pdf (2412 Downloads) |
