i have never worked with rs232 on a plc before.may u assist on how i can receive a rs232 signal from my weight scale and display it on the hmi

Study the manual of the weighing scale carefully. You need to know what "protocol" (think of it as a language) it is using. Think of RS232 as being the medium like using your PC vs hand-phone to send a text message.

"Simple" protocols could be the sending of ASCII characters. In this case it will define a start-code, message and end-code.

No help can be provided if you sit without this knowledge.

thanks dp,bt thats not what am asking.i can pefectly send the string from my scale to the computer,remote display.etc.what i want to knw is how to receive the signal on the plc and process it to an hmi tag

The point is: this forum does not know how the communication looks like. You have not even mentioned which PLC and software. How do you propose we focus our suggestions? Doing a design for an S7-200 SMART differs from using an S7-400.

Or are you asking which devices to use?

noted,pliz do forgive.From the scale i am transmitting an ascii code which respresents the weight on the scale indicator.have configured the port (baud rate,parity bit,handshake,databits,flowcontrol)  of rs232 module on tia portal 13 to conform with that of the scale.i just need to be pointed to the blocks to use to receive the ascii code.

• s71200 cpu1212c ac/dc/relay,
• cm1241 rs232
• sm1231 analog input module
• hmi kp600 mono

have configured the hardware  devices above.hmi linked to cpu 1212c via profinet
