I think what MAZENJER told is right since i have used 1200 series cpus many times and haven't been able to download during run mode is active, it stops for a while and turns back to run mode again.

The early version of the S7-1200 was a problem. The later the firmware version, the better the result for download (software!) while in run. There are however conditions to this.

Structural changes to FB / DB is an issue. Adding new.. not a problem, but restructure is a possible problem. Still in most cases (FW4.x) the DB is only re-initialized.

One bigger problem is if a code block contains (example) Motion Control that is active (enable) at that moment. It is best to isolate the core Motion Control instructions in a smaller code block that does not need to change. Hardware related stuff can also be a pain.

Currently our projects (FW4.x) can have download without going to stop, for 95% of the time at system startup. After that almost 100% not going to stop.

Late note.. Forcing a compile with restructure - especially on hardware - will make the PLC go to stop. If the system sees a change in hardware and need to load hardware, it will stop.

You can only update a running s7-1200 PLC program.  And only in relative minor ways.  If you need to make major changes, it is very complicated not to require a PLC stop, download / restart.

Look in the s7-1200 system manual for online changes plus the F1-Help has information on this.

There are limits to what you can do, but if you absolutely cannot shut down the running process, you can make copies of existing DBs that you may need to change, download the new DBs, and then start using them by slowly sending updates to FBs/FCs/OBs.  If you create a new UDT, you will require a restart of the PLC. 

It may be possible to slowly make a PLC modification in this way, but to honest it is much safer and less headache to schedule the downtown and deploy the updates all at once.

How I can download program to the PLC S7-1200 with the PLC in RUN mode. I have TIA portal V13 SP1 update 9.
