These have been sent to hdhosseini for him to host. Hopefully he will add them to this thread in due course. In the meantime, here is some more information that I have gathered. The first thing that grabs you is the built-in display. This is a colour display that looks to have QVGA resolution (don't quote me on that!). At present, this display is written to by the firwmware only and displays diagnostic data. However, it is expected that in future it may be possible for the user program to have some control / influence over the data to be displayed and possibly even be able to display user data on the display. Will interface directly to ET200MP style I/O cards (same backplane). The CPU width will be between 35 and 70 mm (width grows as the CPU power increases). At present there are 1511 to 1518 CPU's. There are also Compact versions with some built-in I/O. The F & H versions will follow in due course (no timescales yet though). Will be supported by TIA portal V12. 1511 is equivalent to 312/314 1513 is equivalent to 315 1516 is equivalent to 317/319 1517/1518 will (I expect) be equivalent to 414/417 Features new FBD/LAD/SCL compilers. Code is now compiled directly into machine code (as opposed to via an interim step of STL code as it is now). This has the disadvantage(?) of not being able to view FDB/LAD/SCL in STL format anymore. Block protection (TIA Portal) is now an 128-bit encryption algorithm. CPU software locking will also be provided (ability to lock user program to a particular CPU serial number). Has build-in high-speed datalogging / trending facility (down to 200us resolution). I am quite excited . In the shops for christmas too . If only my company would buy me one .

If you select the English version you will only be able to download Update 1. Hello Jorsal, But the German pageshould have the language neutral installation for TIA Portal v12 Upd 3. So downloading from German page should not be an issue ideally.

Firmware V1.5.0 for the S7-1500has been releasedat the end of February 2014

The highlights in the update from my point of view, is those new features:

Display:

Add a user logo
Watch and Force tables (must be defined in the project)
Change CP IP addresses
Automatic update of alarms and diagnostic buffer (previously you had to go back to update)

PLC:

GetSymbolName,GetInstanceName, GetBlockName: Finally we can make universal program blocks without hard-coding symbols inside the function block! Looking forward to try this.
Option handling (reconfiguration of a PLC via the user program) also possible for centrally located I/Os. (Disable part of IO like we could in S7-300/400)
Function block RT_INFO
WCHAR and WSTRING datatypes
SPLIT: Converts a long source character string with separators into several separate character strings. JOIN - the other way.

There is a updates for almost all modules - including digital/analog input/output, PtP communication. Although most of them are from 2013.

My experiences:I updated my test 1511-1 PN to the V1.5 firmware from TIA V13 using the function: Online & Diagnostics, Functions, Firmware update. I started with the display, and it took about 5-10 minutes to complete.

It took 26 minutes to perform the update! After the 26 minutes TIA reported: Activate firmware on target, please wait. This process may take a few minutes. Nothing happened for the next hour (and Cancel was grayed, see attached image) , until I lost my patience and forced TIA to shut down. Anyway, the firmware seemed to be loaded, as the CPU went into run, and afterwards I could program the PLC again.

Please let me know how the update process goes for you.

If the user disables the interruption of program sequences with the block "DIS_AIRT" but fails to lift this measure afterwards using the block "EN_AIRT", this will now be done latest at the end of the OB calling the block. Arrays with a negative index will no longer cause a STOP of the CPU with the error message "Length-of-Area Error". The CPU will no longer enter Defect mode with the message: "fatal exception error (non-relevant user system code: 16#00000000 16#10020000 16#00000000)", if the block "DataLogOpen" is called in a timed interrupt OB. When processing negative 64-Bit integer values (signed) the shift function SR will no longer lead to incorrect processing. The CPU will no longer sporadically enter Defect mode with the message: "fatal exception error (non-relevant user system code:0x800011210000008A“, if there are repeated block calls within a block (more than approx. 80 block calls) in which the structured actual parameter has a different memory format than the structured formal parameter of the called block. The cause of the message "Error in PROFIsafe communication with F-I/Os" after re-integration and change of the Safety configuration in the case of special F-devices has been eliminated.
