Unlinked DBs and the Maximum Number of Blocks a CPU Can Support

I am creating a function that will back up the data in DBs in the working memory of the CPU on to the MMC card using SFC 84. I know I need to use unlinked DBs so they exist only on the MMC. My problem comes from the maximum number of Data Blocks supported by the CPU. On my 317-2 CPU, it supports a max of 2048 blocks (FB, FC and DB combined). I have about 30 blocks to spare and I want to back up 1000 DBs. I thought since the unlinked DBs are not going into the working memory anyway, they should not be counted in the total block count. However the PLC will not allow me to load any more unlinked DBs past the 2048 block max.

So am I missing something or are unlinked DBs indeed counted in the total block count of the CPU, even though they are not stored the working memory?

I was hoping that by using unlinked DBs I could extend the number of blocks allowed in the PLC, since they are not really in the PLC but in the load memory of the MMC. It seems that this is not possible, oh well, thanks for confirming.
