Nemo Posts: 3149 Rating: (171)	Hi Marques, personally I wouldn´t use the "Start > Programm> Microsoft SQL Server > Enterprise Manager" for backing up my database via "tools > backup database". Normally I am backing up my project via the Simatic Manager => check this out (for PCS 7, chapter 1 for PCS7 ES / OS) http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/15236128 Regards, Nemo

However no-one seems to know the correct method for doing this ! I would be interested to hear everyone's ideas on how they handle runtime data backups. Also how they avoid the problem of making a change to a project off site and then copying it onto the production server without over-writing the existing data. My thoughts are to use the "Load Online Changes" editor but I am unsure if this is the best or recommended way to do it. Please, any thoughts / ideas / suggestions welcome.

The TagLogging and AlarmLogging database file can be "relinked" to the project in the corresponding WinCC-Editors via "link archive" or automatically when using CommonArchiving. As Nemo already advised, you should not perform any kind of database manipulation in SQL Enterprise manager yourself because you do not know about the internal database logic of WinCC-SQLServer. regards -Freddy- [8)]

Salma Gold Member Joined: 9/27/2005 Last visit: 11/27/2007 Posts: 1398 Rating: (151)	In my case, not necessarily Marques, it is the actual runtime database files contained in the ArchiveManager folder. These files are transferred when the project is moved between machines but in the situation when going from production PC to development PC and back to production PC, you don't want the files that were generated on the development PC to be passed back to the production PC. This is because the data contained in these runtime database files is irrelevant. I am not suggesting for a moment that anyone uses Enterprise Manager, QA, or any other MS SQL Server tool for dealing with this issue. All I am asking is what methods people are using and (hopefully) the recommended method. Is it enough to simply delete these files manually in Windows Explorer before copying the project back to the production PC? Remember that you cannot do a Reset in the Tag/Alarm Logging editors as this will remove ALL the runtime data which is not acceptable. Any ideas?

Obviously my clients don´t want to lose their data, so i am trying to discover a way to change the project in my office and them just replace it in the process computer. Suggestions... Regards...
