dchartier Grandmaster-Expert Joined: 9/27/2006 Last visit: 11/12/2024 Posts: 12293 Rating: (2691)	Hello chet; There is a very good explanation of the use opf a Y-Link as a gateway between redundant H-system CPUs andstandard Profibus slaves in the following FAQ: How is the Y link structured? *Description* The Y Link is used to connect remote IO devices that have only one DP interface to a redundant H system. The Y link consists of two IM 153-2 interface modules and a Y coupler. The Y link is connected to the redundant DP master system via the interface modules. The remote IO devices are connected to the Y link via the Y coupler, i.e.: The Y link creates a gateway from a redundant DP master system to a unilateral DP master system. Mostly this is used to communicate Drive(vfd or DC Drives ) to H-system. In this case you have to switch on & off the perticular repeater for conenctions to slaves with single profibus connection from the redundant masters. You have to use PLC DO for repeater supply.That DO you can make on & off as per which CPU is becoming Master.

But what if i could use it to communicate with RIO? I am sure that it will not give bumpless changeover.

But what if i could use it to communicate with RIO? I am sure that it will not give bumpless changeover. I'm agree with Amit_86 Changeover time may take up to 2 seconds. Two seconds isn't a long time for monitoring, but too much time for control system.

But any way, 2 seconds is not a big deal if we are talking abour process automation. For machine automation applications, time is measured by micro-seconds.
