problems with MPI communication on PG

Hi.

I'm currently having problems communicating withCPU’s using a SIEMENS PG.

The situation is that my company own TWO field PG's. One of the PG's has always had a problem communicating with plant equipment and the other PG works fine.

So, Naturally I always use the PG that works! - But, the time has come when I feel I should probably try and solve the problem with the other PG.

When I open SIMATIC MANAGER with the PG connected to a CPU via MPI (in this case I’m connected to a C7-621, and click "Accessible Nodes" nothing happens, then if I click it again I’m faced with an error saying "failed to create empty document". If I test the connection in the "Set PG/ PC interface" the connection appears healthy.

If I perform the exact same procedure on our other PG - "the Accessible Nodes" window is displayed as I would expect.


I’m hoping that experienced people will read this and comment that this isn’t actually a problem at all! - In fact it’s just a simple setting that I don’t know about???

could you tell me what you have set up in the PG / PC Interface Settings for the CP 5611 you use?
What I mean is the Accesspoint for Applications and the Property Settings for theCP Card.

PG/PC Interface settings: the properties for CP5611 (MPI) are as follows;

Pg/PC is the only master on the bus IS UNCHECKED
Address "0"
Timeout 10s
Transmission rate 187.5
Highest station address 31

All the tests in the diagnostics TAB show healthy.



If I create a New Trial Project - the same thing happens - clicking the "accessible nodes button" shows "failed to create empty document" there is no error number for this.

Step 7 V5.2 + SP1 is being used on this PG

A Few extra points;

Ever since having the PG - It has never worked properly for some reason. We have tried to "backup" critical plant before with the CONTRACTORS who installed it and we always had to resort to using their own laptop.

If I create a New Project and then click "PLC - Upload station" this will work fine. ALSO I am able to go ONLINE!! - Which indicates to me that the connection settings are OK?

From the SIMATIC Manager "grey window" - if I click "accessible nodes" it doesn't do anything other than bring up a lot more toolbars (which are greyed out because there is no project) - the ERROR only appears the second time that I click it. - I always have to click "Accessible Nodes" twice to bring up the Error.

I have just made an important discovery comparing the two PG's with each other.


Under "SIMATIC MANAGER" - "Options" - "Customize" - "Columns tab" the working PG has as follows;

*Project Offline
*Project Online
*Library
*Multiproject Offline
*Multiproject Online
*S7 Memory Card
*S7 Memory Card file
*Accessable Nodes

Also Under the "Visable columns" - There are "check boxes" with descriptions next to them.

The faulty PG has:

*Project Offline
*Project Online
*Library
*Multiproject Offline
*Multiproject Online

Under the "Visable columns" - There are "check boxes"BUT NOdescriptions next to them??

The funny thing is when you try to "expand" the Project Offline options under the "Object types" certain areas are not displayed? - Please look at the attachment, Does this look corrupt?
