• Maintenance functions and information are seamlessly integrated in SIMATIC PCS 7 in the form of the Maintenance Station (MS).
• With the Maintenance Station the maintenance engineer gets an overview of the diagnostic and maintence information of all assets, i.e. the system components of a plant. This includes intelligent field devices, I/O modules, controllers, fieldbus, terminal bus and system bus components or operator stations.
• The available detailed information will be filtered and processed, depending on the area of responsibility and authorization of the maintenance engineer. User administration and access control for the Maintenance Station are done by SIMATIC Logon which is integral in SIMATIC PCS 7 V7.0.
• The Maintenance Station uses ES/OS tools, operator desktops and hierarchies. The signalling system, the form of representation and the operator guidance are in line with operator input and control philosophy developed for operators. The diagnostic data of all assets are depicted by means of uniform templates, whose content is determined by the intelligence of the respective component.
• Depending on the architecture of the PCS 7 system, the Maintenance Station can be implemented on the basis of a SIMATIC PCS 7 BOX 416, a PCS 7 Single Station or a client-server combination.
• The table below shows possible hardware and software configurations of the Maintenance Station:

• Due to their close linkage, ES, OS and Asset Management functions will run on a common hardware, i.e. a Maintenance Station cannot only be used for asset management, but also for system engineering or for operator input and control.

• Configuration and parameter changes of EDD-based devices can be recorded, displayed and documented in the modification logbook.
• A centralized, automatically generated list with the ID data of all assets provides support with the creation of an optimal update strategy.
– The list is generated automatically via the export of ID data and includes firmware and software versions of all the components displayed on the Maintenance Station.
• The enhanced documentation management provides better support for maintenance measures for EDD-based devices:
– Up to 10 different type multimedia files can allocated to each device (e.g. DOC, PDF, MPG or AVI files) and called up via the Maintenance Station.
