Hi, I am currently working on a project utilising the siemens CPU 410-5H in a PCS 7 software. Our system is configured with 98 Process objects(POs). Given this configuration, I am seeking your expertise to determine whether a Simatic system expansion card is necessary for our setup. Are there specific factors or configurations i should consider that would influence the need for an expansion card ? Tank you for your assistance.

Hi, A SEC is always necessary for the CPU410-5H, without it you cannot download the CFC program. What package did you order? You can order a CPU410-5H without SEC card-> only used for replacement of a defective CPU where you take out the SEC and put it into the new CPU or with a preconfigured amount of AS PO -> 100, 500, 1000, 1600 or 2000+ (unlimited PO). If you have 98 PO, you would need at least 100 AS PO on the SEC card to operate the it. When you don't have enough AS PO, you can order additional AS PO. Available size is 100 and 500 PO. If you have a redundant system, you have to make sure both CPU's have the same amount of AS PO. Please bear mark that there is a difference between AS PO stored on the SEC and AS RT PO stored on ALM in the engineering station. If you have configured more PO than available on the SEC, you cannot download the CFC program anymore. If you don't have enough AS RT PO, downloading can be executed but you receive a warning. Please see the manual: Process automation with the SIMATIC PCS 7 CPU 410-5H controller for more information about licenses and how to upgrade a license. This link will also have additional information about the CPU410-5H

Hi, I doubt you can buy the SEC card separately. What kind of system did you order? Or do you still need to order a system? Via the following link you can configure the AS. If you select: 6ES7656-6C...-.... you can configure an redundant system with CPU410-5H preassembled and test. With the configurator you can select the options like amount of AS PO, CP443-1 yes/no etc. The AS PO are stored on the SEC. Buy this with a lot of spare because it saves you the trouble to update the SEC later on with additional AS PO, if not sufficient, you cannot download the program. Apart from this, you need to have AS RT PO which is a quantity license. That license (6ES7653-2BA00-0XH5 PO100) is stored on the engineering station in Automation License Manager. When downloading the amount of AS RT PO is booked to the CPU and booked back if you delete PO from the project. So in short, you need to have AS PO for the SEC which determines basically the scalability of the system and then AS RT PO for the configured process objects. |
