Hi,

I have got a problem with TIA Portal Updater. I have an error "Unable to connect the server". I've tried to open Updater as administrator but it didn't help. I've also tried to reinstall TIA Portal but it didin't help either. My administrator checked and no firewall blocks the connection. Anyone has an idea what to do?

I too am having unable to connect to server error.  I have tried to connect from 3 different internet connections.  I have tried running as admin, I tried with Windows firewall enabled and disabled.  I have tried every trick I could find listed in the Siemens forums and still can not connect to the updater server.

Any help would be appreciated.

Same problem here. TIA 13 SP1. My PC can't connect to PLC. Error Codes: 0140, 017088.

I think that has something to do with problem too. I also tried to reinstall the entire software package. But still couldn't get it to work.....

Same issue here with v14 SP1 Upd5

When I enter the Server-URL into the Browser I also get to see the XML code, but that's about it.

I have 2 Windows 7 virtual machines.  One with Portal v13 SP1, the other with both v13 SP1 and v14 SP1.  Neither of those will the updater work.

I have a new VM with Windows 10 and Portal v14 SP1 only.  The updater works!

Is there a Windows 7 update that breaks the updater?

There is a good  possibility that the problem is with the VM not allowing through the link.

Using the Updater is a bit of touch-and-go. On my system it takes a long time to generate the list and it is done each time the Updater connects - which seems wasteful of my data.

On my system this is a HUGE list of items. Of those items there are many I cannot even use as I have a Basic license. See the picture. You have to know what you want from the list. 

A general tip (if a list is generated) ->
Remember to configure where the download will be stored. Downloads cannot be started if this is not configured.

I have spoken too soon! 

My connection got dropped and the Updater does not have the ability to continue where it left off. Worse still.. even with 75% completed but not done yet, Updater reports that the update is not required (see attachment, compare with previous).

The experiment has failed - Updater is not the tool for me. Here we go again in the old way ->

My collegues says the Tia Software Updater error "Unable to connect to the server" is not isolated to VM, but also a problem where Tia Portal V13 or V14 is installed direct at a Win 7 laptop.
The problem still appears even if Firewall, Antivirus etc. have been deselected.

The Tia Portal Updater is not at all able to connect to the server, and therefore no list of subjects to update appear and no download can be started.

Same problem exits here: 

OS : W7

TIA : V14

TIA updater unable to connect to the server. 

Switched antivirus/firewall off. From my perspective this started after the W7 meltdown/spectre updates. 

Hope this helps for a solution.

Worked fine with all versions on my PC until recent upgrade to V15....

Seems to be a common problem judging by the amount of posts. For me it's also V14SP1 under Win7. Firewall + Antivirus off, XML appears in browser, Updater doesn't work.

Sure seems to be diffcult to make a decent updater software.

 Hello i have installed TIA v14 and tia V15 in two virtual machines and updater doest works in each other. Can you send me your network setting and VMware settings. Im so angry of this. I have win7 SP1. Earler TIA updater worked.

Running as administrator does not help. At least it didn't for me. The exe for TIA Updater may be found in C:\Program X86\ Common Files\ Siemens \ ASU

My updater was working fine, until the update to tia portal V15.

It is a variable experience. Do you have any fault messages?

On my system the Updater takes VERY long to update the lists with items. Having said that, I have trust issues in using the service to source downloads - have not had good experiences yet.

It hasn't worked for a while on my computer. I have Internet access. The updater just keeps saying "unable to connect to the server"

What is the servers address? I'll see if I can ping it from here...

This morning i tryed to run the Updater and for 20 minutes was ok and i downloaded some support package and 2 release for TIA 14 SP1. After the problem appears again.

Maybe the real problem are Siemens server...

   Few days ago I had reinstalled on my PG M4 whole system Win7 + TIAv13. After that I installed every services packs and updates which I have offline (almost to actual version). After that I installed TIAv15 which was downloaded before reinstal. Next I turned on TIAupdater and everything was ok. I downloaded fast 2 updates, every ~2.5Gb. It was on my private network.

   Today morning I am in my office and want to continue download rest of updates and cant connect to Siemens server... Changing from private<->public network doesnt help. It is the only one network difference since yestereday.

   All I have done yesterday while downloading TIA updates was downloading and instaling updates to Win7 and maybe one of them blocks my TIAupdater. Unfortunately was a lof of them ;/

   So two ways to investigate: Siemens servers or Windows update kills connection

The same problem on TIA Updater for a few days

In TIA V15 I see a new feature called "TIA Administrator"
When you start this, you see an option "Software management" 
It looks like Siemens want to change the update service.

It shows the available updates. The download works also, but the installation ends most of the times with an error.......

The windows is updated and I am in a company network with anti-virus that is not controled by me.

Is there any external update to Tia Software Updater that can make updates working again?

It is certainly Siemens's problem. Sometimes my updater can find updates and sometimes not.

 Yesterday morning i still had problems. This morning it worked, without changing anything.
