I have an existing sketch that needs to communicate with a PHP server over TCP. It just needs to pass a value to a web address like http://myserver.abc/input/php?id=myValue

I am getting myself a little consfused with this platform and really struggling to figure it out, would I need to sacrifice SSH access to the IOT to do this or move to the 4040?

I can upload a sketch, no problem there. My question is regarding use of ethernet. As the board only has one ethernet adapter, can I use this in my sketch and also use it for SSH access?

How does this differ from the standard libary for Ethernet? As using the sketch with the EthernetShield libary doesn't seem to work? Does anyone have an example of sending a request to a url?

Yes, the ethernet port is shared between your arduino sketch and the linux operating system.

The difference is, that you don't have to configure the Ethernet interface (e.g. no need to set MAC, IP, gateway, dns, dhcp).

The only header you need is "EthernetClient.h" and the class EthernetClient.

See the stripped down example, based on the example sketch "Ethernet (Galileo)/WebClient" in the attached sketch.
