jklm Platinum Member Joined: 12/22/2006 Last visit: 1/25/2022 Posts: 1742 Rating: (309)	Hello, The AS511 Interface of S5-CPUs is using current loop signals (TTY). You cannot make a TTY /RS 232 adaptation with just passive wiring. In other words you always need a special RS232 to TTY converter (or USB-TTY converter). The easiest thing to do is buy these special cables.

Good Luck Thanky you a lot for ....design . i will forget about USB to ...and i will try to build RS 232 /TTY cable . now (cause i did not work wit step 5 / only step7 )i will ask wich cable i need to build to program / read/write programm fro S5 PLC ???witout others devices ( TTY convertor or others devices). From what i have understood is need to build the activ one .is corect ??Or is ok to build only the passive (is easiest than activ ).

Vitas Posts: 74 Rating: (2)	Hi aliuta2000, usually You will connect directly to CPU ports and in this case is passive cable sufficient. But if You want connect to another S5 card e.g. IP246 Positioning Module, You have to use active cable, because port of IM246 has no current sources of 20mA that are necessary to supply ofpassive cable. Therefore usability of passive cable depend on type device to which You can connect. Good Luck Vitas
