MAG5100 with MAG6000 Transmitter

henno2000 Posts: 177 Rating: (0)	Hi, I have purchaed the above instruments to measure flow in one of our pipelines. For ease of communication I was going to use PROFIBus and import the GSD file in SIMATIC Manager. I am wanting a little more information on the following matters please: There are different GSD files available with different profiles to use. Which one is the most appropriate? Which sub-category is best to use to measure flow? When passing the information across to the PLC, is there a function block that can be used to output the parameters directly into the program? henno2000 Posts: 177 Rating: (0)	There are 2 different downloads available. Profile 2 and Profile 3. Within these profiles there are files for PA and DP settings. I was wondering what the difference is? Also, for my application, I only want to measure flow (for the time being). Is it advisable to communicate using PROFIBus, or just use the outputs supplied on the instrument? Regards, henno2000

Regards, henno2000 Hello, The PA and DP are difference network, therefore the GSD files are alsodifference by configuration forcommunicationto operate controllevel. You can use the PC/laptop and SIMATIC PDM software using PROFIBUS PA communication. Regards chook

I think they are litres per second, but am wanting to confirm before manipulating the data. Regards, henno2000

henno2000 Posts: 177 Rating: (0)	The device connectivity has been changed from an analague output to PROFIBus DP. I have imported the correct GSD file and established commiuncations with the device. I am wanting to read values from the device but am unsure how. From reading the PDF file for the PROFIBus connection manual, it appears that I require the SIMATIC PDM software to do this. Is this the only way of reading values from the device, through PROFIBus and into the PLC? Regards, henno2000

SonicRanger Posts: 151 Rating: (8)	Hi Henno2000, Of course you can read the flow by cyclic communication. Only for configuring and diagnostics, SimaticPDM is a helpful tool. Please refer to the following link for the manual for the Profibus modules for the MAG6000: http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/22437482 On page 21, an example is displayed how to integrate it in a S7 system. Regarding the the question "analog output or profibus?", of course this depends on which hardware you have available. But generally speaking, profibus can save installation/ engineeringcosts, and the instruments are more versatile, because of easily available diagnostics. Regards, SonicRanger.
