Must i put the device into my HW configuration?

Now I want to add to my network a device, that communicates through PROFIBUS. Bucause my PLC has DP, I can connect the device, is not that right? My question is:I must put the device into my HW configuration?The device is some kind of a weghing system (indikator), and I can not find it as a GSD file. How can I connect this device, to my HW configuration, or there is otherways to make such conections? Thanks, Best regards

dchartier Grandmaster-Expert Joined: 9/27/2006 Last visit: 11/18/2024 Posts: 12296 Rating: (2691)	Hello drozerce; GSD files are generally provided by the manufacturer of your Profibus slave device, either on an accompanying CD, or on their website. It actually is a requirement for Profibus certification of their unit. Could I suggest you provide more information (make and model) of the Profibus slave (your weighing unit)? It is possible someone here has had experience setting it up, or knows how to contact the manufacturer's website. This could prove useful to you, as once you have integrated the GSD file into HWConfig, you still are stillstuck with setting upthe data exchange between the weighing unit and the PLC; that can require some few adjustments, and help from the forum has been known toclear up details forsome users on occasion. I got the GSD file from the manufacturer, and I put it into my HW configuration, and so far so good. The thing is about this: I have a load cells and Iconnect them through 4-wire to my indicator (that I buy it from the manufacture with the GSD file). That indicator I connect it with PLC with PROFIBUS. So, my questoin is this: what other things I got to do, I mean what other things Ihave toadjust in my SW in PLC? From the indicator through Profibus i recive in PLC only number (int, word) and some bits for alarms that are preassign from the manufacture, isn't so? I should recive only number in PLC without any other adjustments that I should do after that? I mean, whenI have a GSD file, then I should not have any problems, isn't so? Every oppinion is welcomed, Best regards

Hello drozerce; Many of us here have worked with various weighing systems. Personnaly, I have connected Ramsey, Hardy and Mettler-Toledo scales to my PLCs using Profibus-DP. And I remember well that each system requires totally different data exchanges with the master. This is something that is completely defined by the manufacturer. And the best place to locate this information is in the manufacturer's communication manual. If you would like more help from the forum, I strongly suggest you provide more information on the system you are connecting to the bus (in this case your amplifier), make and model if possible. Maybe someone here has direct experience with that particular model and can give you pointers. Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier

It is about IPE 50 2S weighing indicator. I made some SW modifications. I need just to read in the PLC the measured value that I recive from the load cells through the weighing indicator. dchartier Grandmaster-Expert Joined: 9/27/2006 Last visit: 11/18/2024 Posts: 12296 Rating: (2691)	Hello drozerce; From the documents you provided, it seems that the gross weight value occupies the first 4 bytes of the communication area you have reserved for your weighing station, and the net weight occupiess the four next bytes. So you must reserve at least a module of 8 bytes IN when you configure it in HWConfig; although the practice would generally be to reserve the maximum 32 bytes, if all you want is read the values (no writing). Just use the start address of the IN area reserved for your module in the hardware configuration as the 4-byte address of the gross weight, and the next 4-byte address as the area for the net weight. Unfortunately, the manual is not explicit as to how these bytes are used. I mean, the value could be a REAL (doubtful, as per their comment on the decimal point), or a DINT, o a 4-byte BCD value. The best way to find out is to test with a known weight, once the transmitter is configured properly, and use a VAT table to look at each byte seperately, to see how the values are input to these addresses. If they make no sense, try to read them as a DINT. That should give you directions to follow. Please come back to us with the results of the tests, it should be interesting to follow. The calibration I made like it says in the manuals.I also made changes in my HW configuration in the PLC and in the indicator. I downloaded the HW configuration, and there is the problem: General: Module configured, but not available Preset/Actual missmatch: (inserted and configured module types are not the same) DP slave diagnostic: DP slave not accessible by means of the bus. I tried everything, I checked the polarity of profibus cables, I checked the connectors and every thing was fine, but I still received that error. The following day I came back on the crime scene and cut the power off from the fuse, and put on again. I tried to download the HW configuration again, and it pass it, and after that was just fine. The number for measured weight that I received in my PLC form the indicator was DWORD value, and it took the first four bytes from the address area. This is the result from this topic, thanks again for your help. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask me. Best regards
