I know that in WinCC, errors, warnings and events are different classes with different acknowledge principles.

Alarm is the one for what you have to give iimediate attension and check for the remedy. (For Ex: High High level of a tank)

Warning is the where you have to have a look into the system for the healthness (For Ex: High level of tank)

Event is the one which gives the information about the actual status of the plant element ( For Ex: Motor Running, Valve closed)

But I don't get the difference between errors and alarms.

So my question is: vocabulary (or technically) -wise, what is an alarm? When would you say, this is an alarm, this is an error?

Are errors, warnings and events subdivisions of the general term "alarms"?

I can try to explain you on the example of a valve.

If the command to open a valve is sent, but it is not moving, then it is error with the text "Valve not open".

If the closed valve causing some high level of water, then it is alarm "Water high level".

If we extend Neren's answer about alarm classes (Errors, Warnings, System events) with IETF Alarm MIB RFC 3877, we will get the following classification:

Error - A deviation of a system from normal operation. (A physical reason, i.e. circuit breaker tripped)
Warning - A deviation of system parameter by a certain level. (A physical reason, i.e. high current)
Notification - Unsolicited transmission of management information. (Diagnostic messages, help messages to operator, i.e. "system is ready", "select Auto mode and press Start")
Fault - Lasting error or warning condition. (Abnormal system condition)
Alarm - Persistent indication of a fault. The fundamental purpose of alarm annunciation is to alert the operator to deviations from normal operating conditions, i.e. abnormal operating situations. (Indication with visual or audible effects, lights, HMI messages, sirens)

Alarm State - A condition or stage in the existence of an alarm. As a minimum, alarms states are raise and clear. They could also include severity information (cleared, indeterminate, critical, major, minor and warning).

Event - Something that happens which may be of interest. A fault, a change in status, crossing a threshold, or an external input to the system, for example.
