Hi All,

A couple of quick questions? We had a TP177A Touch Panel go Down with the LED back light gone. I managed to backup the Touchscreen using WinCC 2008 SP2 to a PSB File. Everything transferred OK.

But when I fitted a replacement screen, the Transfer started OK, But failed on File 4 of 4, Transferring the OS. I tried the transfer a few times & it was the same result each time..

I then tried to manually update the OS from within WinCC 2008 SP2 & it again failed....

When I removed the 24v to the panel to see whether a power-cycle would rectify any issue, the Panel is now stuck in a booting-loop, I assume because it has no OS...

Is this recoverable? Please see the Movie video attached...

The second question is, why did this happen?

Both Panels were TP177A's, but the actual SIEMENS Model numbers were different by 1-Digit....

The one with the duff backlight was 6AV6 642-0AA11-0AX1

The bricked one has a model number of 6AV6 642-0AA11-0AX0

Looking on the SIEMENS Website, the one finishing in 1, is a slightly newer model, than the one ending in 0.

Does the fact that it failed to load the OS on the older one, mean you can't back up a 1 Model number & restore to a 0 model number? Is it to do with a possible firmware discrepancy of the two models? Any enlightenment to what has happened would be greatly appreciated!!!!

I will pass on your suggestions to my immediate Line Manager & ask him to order the suggested cable....I did come across a document from another forum post who mentioned 

RS232/PPI multi-master cable: SIEMENS Part Number 6ES7901-3CB30-0XA0

and also a document

Which mentions trying to restore the Panel to OS Factory settings with this Cable, so I assume that the cable you mentioned is the USB option? which in your opinion is the better & more reliable cable to work?

Try to update OS, with the option 'Reset to factory settings' selected.

How do you do an operating system update on operator panels or perform a "Reset to factory settings"?

You need a PC/PPI multimaster cable (6ES7 901-3DB30-0XA0)

And try using ProSave

 Just to let everyone know....The recommended PC/PPI multimaster Cable, Did the trick...Both Panels have been Reset to Factory Settings & the Panel Software has been successfully loaded to the Panel.....
