J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (412)	Hello, the problem is that the best thing to test the card is to install the card into another PC. If the Card runs there... the Card is not the problem. If the Card shows the same fault... it might be that the card itself is faulty. Best regards J_Bell

stwalk Posts: 38 Rating: (0)	When I do the diagnostics on the card, without it attached to the CPU, everythings checks out ok. However, once I attach the card to the PLC with the MPI cable, that is when the error occurs. I have tried using a second CP5511 card and the same error occurs with that too. I do not believe it is the card that is bad. The cable is also working properly. Any ideas? Thanks

J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (412)	Hello, I wonder, did you ever tried the version CP5512 (Auto)? If so and you tried that the CP detects by itself the used baud rate, what did the CP detect? Was it over 500kBit/s? If it increases this limit the MPI cable might not be used because the cable is only released for 187,5 kBit/s. If you use a higher baud rate the cable may cause reflections which may cause the Bus system to crash. In such a case use a PROFIBUS cable instead. Have you ever checked if someone loaded a HW Config with another MPI / DP Configuration to the PLC? Best regards J_Bell

stwalk Posts: 38 Rating: (0)	Hi, Thanks for responding. I have the Step 7 project and have looked at the CPU and it is set at 187.5 kbps. And just a month ago I was able to connect to the CPU, so I know that the baud rate is at 187.5 kbps. However now I am unable to connect. Nobody else has done any programming on it. Do you happen to know the pin out for the MPI cable? (pt. no. 6ES7901-0BF00-0AA0) I could make another cable and try connecting. THanks

J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (412)	Hello, I admit, I would not recommend configuring a MPI Cable by yourself. I would use, if you are not sure if the MPI cable still works, a PROFIBUS cable this fills all requirements. Have you ever tried by any chance to go online to the PLC while the PLC is in Stop mode? Sometimes, for example ifthe number of PROFIBUS nodes is increased without adopting the Bus parameters, the PLC runs close to a breakdown and PG functions are not possible anymore. Only in Stop mode the PLC is reachable again. Maybe this would be something to try. Best regards J_Bell

ramiv Posts: 55 Rating: (1)	Hello all, sometimes we have had problems that the PLC is not any more accessible until you put in a new memory card, and download the hardware again. Have you tried to go online with another computer?. What happens if you select 'PG/PC is the only master on the bus', and then try to look under diagnostics?. Also sometimes (yesterday was the last time) we have a problem that CP5611 does not go deep enough into the PCI-slot. At hardware-tab it shows irq-s and all is fine, but you get error messages from MPI & Adress diagnostics. You have to remove the card, and bend the 'steel mounting bracket' so that it goes straight and deeper into the PCI-slot.

stwalk Posts: 38 Rating: (0)	Hi, Thanks for responding. Yes I have tried the auto version, and it does not detect anything. Once I get a chance I will try putting in stop mode and trying to connect. I only have one computer with the correct version of Step 7 installed, so I cannot try going online with another computer. The computer detects the card and all the diagnostics are ok before I connect to the CPU, so I would assume that the card is deep enough in the PCI slot. Thanks

ramiv Posts: 55 Rating: (1)	Hello, how long is your MPI-cable, is it Simatic cable or something else?. What is the type of connectors you are using?. Does the PC-s power supply came from a different plug than in the PLC-cabinet?. I have had some issues when there was a lot of power consumers at the same socket than the PC, it caused the 'neutral'-wires current went through the power cord of the PC, then through the MPI connector, then through the MPI-cables shielding into the electrical cabinet, where it returned into the power network. When additional consumers were connected and in use, MPI-communication was not possible, when consumers were removed it worked like a charm again. Operator had installed 2kW heater and some kW water heater into the same socket...

stwalk Posts: 38 Rating: (0)	I believe I have it working finally. After reinstalling the card and removing the ethernet cards I could get a connection. I can only get a connection on PLCs that do not have much information programmed in it. I believe after putting the other PLCs into stop mode, then I should be able to get the connection.
