Hi, I have Siemens S7-314C-2 DP CPU and I am trying to connect to it from my PC. Since my computer has a RS232 interface with the DB 9 pin connector I am using RS232 to RS485 converter from Phoenix Contact - PSM-ME-RS232/RS485-P. See the link below. Phoenix Contact RS232 to RS485 Converter I use the MPI connector on the CPU where I connect pin 3 and pin 8 since they are the data pins. The pins are connected to the converter at terminals D(A) and D(B). This is 2 wire RS485. On the other side of the converter I made the connection as in the picture below. It does not seem that TIA Portal v16 recognisez the connection between the PLC and the computer. |

Hi I think you should not expect that a simple rs485/rs232 converter acts like a siemens DP/MPI pc adapter and its relevant driver. These protocols are more than just rs485 physical layer standard. Profibus DP includes layer 2 fieldbus data link layer (FDL) which is responsible for bus access control, transmission services, data security, timing affairs and so on, it also consists of user interface function profiles and extensions. Unlike DP, MPI is siemens exclussive protocl. I'm so interested if you can overcome this problem, it will be a great exprience. Profibus technology and applications Best regards |

Hello,
in this case you can't use standard converters, you need use Siemens adapters and of course depended to your OS used, especially with TIA. I recommend check adapters with specification of MPI/Profibus type but OS is very important to have correct functionality, you can't simply connect devices in this case via simple adapters.. |
