Set PG/PC Interface allows you toconfigure the communication between the PG/PC and the PLC / Drives / HMIs / other Siemens devices. Using this we select the actual communication hardware and the protocol using which various Siemens Softwares will communicate with PLCs and other devices.

Set PG/PC setting can be done through Windows Control Panel or from within various programming softwares e.g. SIMATIC Manager / Drive Starter / Scout etc.

Basically there are two parts of the Set PG/PC Interface Setting :

a) Interface Parameter assignment used

Here we select the hardware to be used for communication

You can Select PC Adaptor / CP 5611 / TCP/IP etc depending on what hardware is installed in your system and what you want to you. e.g. you may have both CP5611 and Ethernet in the PC but you can select any of them depending on the type of communication required.

Some Communication hardwares are capable of multiple protocols. e.g. CP-5611 can use selected for PPI / MPI / Profibus protocols. The available options are listed for installed hardwares.


b) Access Point of the application

An access point creates a connection between an application, an interface parameter set

Here we define the application that is going to access this Interface. e.g. STEP7 / Wicrowin / WinCC etc. Here again the available options are listed.

Some software are capable of changing the PG/PG interface settings automatically ( e.g. PROTOOL Runtime )
