Dear ChristophD, With IRT I am sure that you are right, there are no unmanaged switches, as for IRT you need class C and special hardware "construction". But does your reply apply to whole Siemens unmanged switches Portfolio? Can you confirm that they do not support also RT ? (class A)

Dear forum experts, So please explain me - why there is no information about that in products Data Sheet or XC -100 manual? Same question for XB series. In my opinion if there is no Certificate, they do not support Profinet frames (frames with Profinet header). Can someone please ask product manager to explain this? On support pages I have found something like this: It says it is CC-A, but only as a title. It states only that our devices comply with IEC 61784-1, but to which CC class? Maybe it refers only to retaining collars? Is there any certificate, or manufacturer confirmation that states clearly that those switches are Profinet switches? I've checked: https://support.industry.siemens.com/cs/ww/en/view/109740849 https://support.industry.siemens.com/cs/ww/en/view/109483508 Also, the Profinet CC-A certificate should be easy to find at PI page, and there is nothing about it: Thank you in advance for your help. I really, really appriciate your help. I want to have a clear situatuion here, we can not allow to sell products which do not have proper and clearly stated certificates. |

Hi Ragash allow me to point you to what Carl Henning has to say on the subject of using unmanaged switches for PROFINET at https://us.profinet.com/managed-unmanaged-switch-profinet/ which I hope will clarify a lot. In addition, certification of PROFINET devices is only mandatory for PROFINET I/O Devices and I/O Controllers. An unmanaged (and a lot of managed) switches are neither so you won't find a PROFINET certificate for them (nor do you need one). Lastly, I wholeheartedly agree with Carl's statement that “You will either use a managed switch… or wish you had.” |
