SuperPippo Silver Expert Joined: 6/30/2014 Last visit: 11/14/2024 Posts: 464 Rating: (90)	Dear COMOS users and admins, The cumulative Microsoft udpate KB4549949 from 14th April 2020 (for Windows 10 build 1809) contains a malfunction. The malfunction has not been fixed with the Windows udpate of 11th May 2020 - kb4550969 and kb4551853 COMOS problems with Windows update KB4549949 (cumulative April 2020 update) Description using COMOS with Access mdb database The database file size gets rapidly increased for the first time read access to the database, e.g. in a query. Using the same data doesn't result in further increase while using other/different data increases the database file size coping this database with ExportDB into a new MS Access database will shrink the file size again until now, the problem gets only solved by uninstalling the update(s) for unknown Update-history of the system we recommend to download and install the cumulative March 2020 update KB4554354 SIEMENS is working with Microsoft to find a solution for this problem The KB numbers are different for Windows 10 build 1903 and 1909 but the above-mentioned problems also applies for these Windows builds. I represent another company that has this same problem with Access database file sizes rapidly increasing due to Windows Updates, KB4549951 in particular, which was released on April 14. You wrote, "SIEMENS is working with Microsoft to find a solution for this problem." Could you please elaborate? Do you know if Microsoft understands the issue or if they are close to repairing it? If it helps, perhaps we can share what we know about the issue. In our code we have frequent database updates trough DAO.QueryDef objects, Execute() method, or DAO.Database.Execute() method. This implementation caused our databases to grow to 2GB size (max size for Access databases) in a matter of hours running our real-time applications on computers updated with the Windows update KB4549951. Using DAO.QueryDef seems to also increase the database size at a much faster rate than DAO.Database.Execute() method. On computers without KB4549951, that database size barely increases even after running it for days/weeks.

SuperPippo Silver Expert Joined: 6/30/2014 Last visit: 11/14/2024 Posts: 464 Rating: (90)	Hello everybody, I was able to collect a couple of hints, ideas: You may uninstall the KB which caused the issue, to solve* this issue.* My first solution suggestion would be to open the affected MDB with Microsoft Access, to click on Tools, “Repair and compress” the MDB. Your DB-Admin may know how to open that DB, in Access. In case this does not helps you… You may export the 2 GB MDB into an empty Access-DB, using ExportDB.exe from COMOS. A good solution would be to export the MDB into a SQL, using the tool ExportDB.exe. Also, you may open a ticket at Microsoft. For that, please do open the MDB in COMOS 10.3.3.1.0, but not a project in it. Please see my screenshot to see where and how to compress the MDB. I have tested that, it works just fine. Will be solved by following patches. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4577015/windows-10-update-kb4577015 Mentions an update to the Microsoft JET Database Engine. that is for Windows 10 1607 and Windows Server 2016 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4577032 Mentions an update to the Microsoft JET Database Engine. that is for Windows 10 1803 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4570333 Mentions an update to the Microsoft JET Database Engine. that is for Windows 10 1809 and Windows Server 2019 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4574727 Mentions an update to the Microsoft JET Database Engine. that is for Windows 10 and Server 2019 Build 1903 / 1909 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4571756 Mentions an update to the Microsoft JET Database Engine. that is for Windows 10 And Server 2019 Build 2004 And lastly for any build of Windows 10, greater than 2004 version, will have this fix automatically as it is shipped with the OS itself.
