agodwin Posts: 2 Rating: (0)	I am trying to display RPM as part of a system which switches relays on at various speeds. I have tried to use the Counter Threshold Trigger block, but this doesn't allow hysteresis bands and I can display only Hz, not RPM, so I have looked at using this code example. However, I have some problems. On the actual hardware (0BA6.ES3 + TD) the display flickers between multiple values. Both the count and the scaled RPM value show a wide range of values. It appears that the display is updating at random times to show the count value, not only at the time of the reset pulse. I am using I3 as an input chanel, with 10V 50 to 500 Hz input signal. If I run it in simulation, it is also wrong but in a different way. I can set a frequency value in the simulation, but the B001 count value is always zero. If I set I3 to be a simulated make switch, rapid clicking of the switch will cause the count to be incremented but the display is updated on each switch click, not on the periodic reset pulse. How can I debug this ?

Helmut_13 Posts: 2930 Rating: (432)	Hi, what do you mean with flickering of the values? It is true you can not simulate a frequency without the use of a Threshold trigger connected to you I3. I assume you should use I3 connected to a threshold trigger. You then can reference in a math instruction to the threshhold trigger. However: If you set the thresholf trigger to seconds, then only once a second the frequency will be updated. If you then scale ( * 60), the smallest change of the scaled value you can see is 60. Hope this helps

agodwin Posts: 2 Rating: (0)	I think I have found the problem with the original example. The calculation is enabled all the time, rather than on the update pulse. Negating the enable input to the maths block corrects this, giving a value that is updated only when the timebase restarts. However, although this gives me a stable RPM value, I still have a varying Hz value on the display. Enabling the display updates with the same signal used for the maths block stops all display updates. Thanks for the additional examples. I will investigate these.
