Archive Database Migration Issue from WinCC 7.0 SP2 to WinCC 8.0

The migration of the project itself works without any major issues. However, I am facing a problem regarding archive data, specifically with Archive Logging and TagLogging historical data. Issue description: I need to retain and view historical data from the old WinCC 7.0 SP2 system after the upgrade to WinCC 8.0. I attempted to migrate the archive database files by copying them from the old project's ArchiveManager folder (WinCC 7.0 SP2) to the new project on the WinCC 8.0 system, into the same corresponding ArchiveManager folder. After starting WinCC 8.0 Runtime, I noticed that the database files copied from the old system were deleted automatically by the system. I then tried copying the old archive database files into the CommonArchive folder on the new system. After starting Runtime again, I was able to view the historical data, but the data loads very slowly. My questions are: Is it possible to fully view and access all historical archive data (TagLogging, Archive Logging) from WinCC 7.0 SP2 on the new WinCC 8.0 system after migration? Are there any limitations or compatibility issues I should be aware of? Is there an official or recommended method for copying or importing archive database files from the old WinCC 7.0 SP2 system to WinCC 8.0 so that they are recognized and accessible in the same way as on the old system (i.e., placing them in ArchiveManager or ArchiveManager/Fast folders)? Why are the old archive database files deleted when placed in the ArchiveManager folder after starting WinCC 8.0 Runtime? Is this expected behavior, and is there a way to prevent this from happening? When archive databases are placed in the CommonArchive folder and can be accessed, why is the data retrieval so slow? Is there a way to improve performance or properly index/import the data for faster access? Any official guidance or best practices for handling archive data migration between WinCC 7.0 SP2 and WinCC 8.0 would be greatly appreciated.

Murof Platinum Expert Joined: 8/3/2009 Last visit: 9/2/2025 Posts: 16290 Rating: (1930)	Hello Jame_DI_CS If you want to migrate a project including the old archive data you should do this by copying the whole project folder including all archive data. Then open this project in WinCC V7.2/V7.3 and do a conversion of the peoject data. then you can open it also in V8.0 and do the same. This should keep all existing archive data also if you start the project in V8.0 (General information about migration you find HERE) If you copy the segments to the common archiving then the segments will be attached additionally to the normal running taglogging and alarm logging. So this could cause performance issues and should not be used with too much segments and also not permanently. Only copying the segments from one Archivemanager folder would be only the half job. There are also databases for managing wihch archive files are loaded. Check out this FAQ -> But the first way would be the best
