How do I replace the GSD file

We will get a new unit containing 2 oil heaters (KF3.E1.U1.UH1 & KF4.E1.U1.UH1). We will need to make sure the 2 heaters have the addresses PIW 6130 & PIW 6145 and that the new heaters match GSD file REGL9006.GSD. But IF the new heaters do not match GSD file REGL9006.GSD but comes with their own different GSD file how do I replace the GSD file for these 2 heaters? PISCEAN 2010 Diamond Member Joined: 4/23/2010 Last visit: 11/23/2024 Posts: 8092 Rating: (882)	Hello, Open hardware project off-line (please make sure you have original good project copy safe on your PG/PC), delete old heaters in the project & add new heaters. Since its new/latest GSD file is not in catalog, it will display yellow triangle with question mark. Now download new GSD file in hardware catalog so that it will get updated, Save & recompile project, if you do not see any yellow triangle or question mark, you can download project in CPU. Hope this helps.

dchartier Grandmaster-Expert Joined: 9/27/2006 Last visit: 9/3/2025 Posts: 12397 Rating: (2717)	Hello xmnj: Regloplas is the manufacturer of your oil heater units, and they are responsible for the creation and distribution of the Profibus gsd files for their eqiuipment. Since the Regloplas website does not mention KF5 (or other units with similar designations) it is difficult for us to follow up on this issue. Basically, Piscean is right, if you get an error when you try to change the model number of the Regloplas units (because you require a nerwer gsd file) you will have to contact Regloplas and inquire about the new file, which you would need to download and integrate in your Step 7 project. I tried searching for "DP-NORM" in the Profibus DP list but nothing showed up. How do I install a new GSD file in the HW catalog (when I get it from the heater manufacturer)? PISCEAN 2010 [snip] Hello, As explained by expert Daniel Chartier, you need to visit heater Manufacturer web or contact them & get the GSD file compatible to heater modules you selected. Save it on your PG/PC & note the address. Open Step 7 software, hardware project. In it, selected hardware catalog update, window will pop up asking to search on web or on PG/PC storage device. Select the path where you have saved GSD file & click OK. Step 7 hardware catalog will get update & then you can insert device under Profibus-DP device selection. Hope this helps.

There are different ways to integrate a new gsd file in Step 7, come back to us if and when Regloplas replies to your query. One extra point: "DP-NORM" appears in your Profibus hardware configuration when you do not have the bmp files that accompany the gsd file you want to integrate in Step 7. It does not represent a specific slave model, no reason to search for it. It simply shows you did not download or properly install the icon file for your Profibus slave. Inside a standard gsd file, there is an entry "bmp_device= " where you can link the manufacturer's bmp file you dowloaded with the gsd file. That way the icon bmp for your slave will appear, instead of the annoying DP-NORM image. If you are not amused by the DP-Norm icon, you can replace it with a custom bmp, as shown in this document: https://support.industry.siemens.com/cs/bh/en/view/490268 Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier
