no, you do not need V18. Just use the predecessor in hw-config but the new cpu in real hw.

No. You can buy a "upgrade" license (which is cheaper as ne "complete" new one) and upgrade your exisiting V16 license.

Choice #1:
Use V16 (install Update 8) with the predecessor (as already posted)
Use V18+ if there are features you need which are only available in this latest hardware device, or if you really hate warnings every time you download to a PLC (I long ago learned to ignore those warnings after reading them once).

Choice #2 (if V18+ choice is chosen):
Purchase a full V19 license (more expensive)
Purchase a portal license upgrade that changes your V16 license into a V19 license (less expensive)
Wait until Portal V20 comes out and purchase an update license (probably slightly more expensive than the V19 license upgrade)

Choice #2a
Choose to stay current with your Siemens licenses using their license SUS upgrade package.  This allows you to keep your company's licenses (portal, safety, step 7, WinCC and others) up-to-date by purchasing the upgrade license in advance at a (hopefully) lower cost than just purchasing single license upgrades.  Your local Siemens distributor can put you in touch with your Siemens licensing group that help make this happen.  This is the choice we made years ago.  It can get expensive, but it is manageable. predictable and we never have to wait for new licenses to arrive nor for purchase processing delays (since they get delivered electronically).

Hello everyone

At the moment, I have TIA portal V16 Update 7 installed on my computer.

I cannot find a new hardware (ET200SP CPU) i recently bought into the TIA portal. The code is 6ES7 510-1DK03-0AB0.

Looking in forums, I understood that I will have to switch to TIA portal v18 in order to find this hardware and communicate with it. Is it right?

In addition, does it mean that I have to buy a whole new license for v18 and that my old license for v16 is now useless?
