I am using PCS7 v8.2 and I have created a FB and its faceplate. Now, I am going to add a button in the faceplate to pop-up a window to display the messages related to each call of the FB. 

My idea is to create a faceplate for the messages and bring it up in a "Picture window" by pressing the button in the main faceplate. So, I need to obtain the prefix of the main faceplate by pressing the button and call the "Picture window" by changing it's "TagPrefix" as follwos:

SetPropChar("Grinding_APC.pdl","Picture Window1","TagPrefix","SAG_Speed_Ctrl/Speed_Controller");

Now my question is that how I can get the main faceplate prefix to call the picture window with that prefix?

Moreover, if you a better a way to implement my idea, please let me know

If you are using PCS7 with the APL, I'd recommend you the APL styleguide. It shows the steps on how to create your own function with the complete look&feel of the APL blocks.

If you then take a look into the APL pictures, and how they work, you'll find out that many properties are stored in not visible elements inside the picture.

If you have ever used an APL block, there's always a message list that can be opened. The message list is the same picture for all APL block types (@PG_APL_Message.pdl). On Opened, it loads a property of an object in the parent picture where the tagname (or tag-prefix) is stored. Then it uses this value as filter for the message list. If you understand how it works, you don't need to create your own message view, but can use the existing one and you are in complete APL style.
