Hi, Because Ethernet IP is not complete OPEN, you need a Gateway to get the SIMATIC standard Industrial Ethernet talk to the Allen Bradley SLC500 and vice versa. There is a example where this is shown in a pdf (from adobe Link: Communication between SIMATIC S7 and Allen-Bradley ControlLogix CPUs via Ethernet: Use of "Echochange" gateways |
I hope that the answer will help, if you have still questions, don't hesitate to ask me. |

Hello, I am not sure because I am not so into the AB stuff. But I checked the HP of INAT, the manufacturer of the ECHOCHANGE Device and found also the SLC 500 PLC in the list of useable PLCs. Please see for yourself: INAT Stay calm. |

Hi, I had also a try for ethernet communication but then with a ML1100 and a S7. ![]() And as Late mentions Ethernet/IP (Ethernet/Industrial Protocol) is a closed protocol but could, in theory, be implemented as a self written driver in your Siemens controller. (Don't do it!) Both PLC were communicating to each other but could not understand each other, like two persons speaking a complete different language without having a common language. There are white papers available via www.odva.org. Here is a linkto EtherNetIP Example Code Freeware. If you have an analyzer like Ethereal even the Ethernet/IP stuff is shown cleary. ![]() Note: Ethernet/IP is a part of Common Industrial Protocol (CIP) which makes it possible to "surf" with RSLinx over the different networks (a.o. DeviceNet and ControlNet) and discover thenetwork nodes. ![]() There is also another "protocol converter" which I use sometimes, it's the Data Station Plus from Red Lion Controls, but I haven't use it yet for Ethernet/IP to ISO-on-TCP. ![]() |
