I still doing it the oldfashion way by my own OB's and FB's. That takes a bit of time and for the moment I working on a system with 108 Sinamics 120G connected to a S7-416-3PN/DP.

It is a simple start/stop with speed control for a conveyor system. The drives shall be controlled via PN only. Safety is integrated but not via ProFiSafe.

So, if you have a better way by using the Drive_Lib. let me know.

I'm using the latest version of TIA v13 pro and WinCC pro.

It would be nice if there could be an easier way for controlling the drives. I do have to work with some other PLC and drive and to tell the truth, Siemens isn't the best solution here. To complex and complicated.

Still looking for a sipper way to control the drives in my project. Any ideas?

I do work with the SFB 14/15 already. And I really have read the docu for the drive Lib v13 - even printed it so that I could make my note and highlight parts.

Still, I belive that the "standard" control for the drives could be improved. I'm not so much concerned for my part but more for my co-workers that are not that firm in the siemens programming. That is why I'm looking for a bit more simple way to control the drives. Also does the customer take over the programming and that is a reason more to keep it simple. It is always difficult to takeover the programming from some one else. I come from the process controll side (oil & gas), working with Step 7 v 5.4 and CFC and just have switch over to TIA v13 pro and the more standard machine control. That told; I tent to overengineer my programming a bit. Now I have to think simple and I do mean it. We have a tech from the customer in the office and he just gave up on the interface for the SAP application. I think it was simple but he could not come around it. But there is the problem - I can't make it more simple or I will not get the results we need.

Before we have used for those control systems Schneider-Electrik or B & R control system.

The system I'm working on now is our first go with Siemens on it. Because of the number of drives, number of remote I/O stations and the complex database (SAP) connection - the use of the S7-1500 is out of the question. I'm forced to use the S7-417 CPU.

So still: any more simple ways for controlling the drives?

The task is simple speed controll with stop and go. Transport system in in a warehouse. the conveyors a seperated in sections. Some will pass through some fire protection gates, where i need to generate a bigger seperation between the products on the conveyor.

The section are controlled by photo electric sensors to prevent that the parts on the conveyor are pushed off at the end or to wait for a free space to move the following part forward.

I have it workingk but i still think i have over engineered the application. I'm happy with the function but the tech from the clienet can't make sense of it.

I did recommend to him to attened a Siemens training but that he rejected - don't ask me why. I still believe that it is important for him to get the background on the system.

I now have done it the same way as in the example you have suggested. It works the same way as my own; a bit more refind as my project.

For the moment I have about 12 drum motors running on the controller here in the workshop. Looking good from my side. Now I can only hope that the clients technician can make sense of it. In any case; my boss will have a word with the department head of the client to see what can be done. As far as I could understand, have they never had a Siemens system in the company and also the tech did not got ask when the new system got ordered. He would like to use Omron but there I have the problem, that I can't interface the PLC in to the SAP application (that easy). Sometimes it is hard to convince people that change is good.

I will now tinker on my project and when I have done it, I will post it here. Maybe someone else needs an idea on it too.
