How to convert old programs

stephen van buskirk Posts: 4 Rating: (0)	I have a customer that I wrote a program for in about 2001. I don't remember this at all, but my customer still has the machinery and needs some changes. (Unlike software, who discards a few hundred thousand dollar piece of machinery just because it's over a decade old?) I have some OLD backup CDs that show multiple versions of his program in the program folder under Step 7. The programs, his newest and some old versions, all have multiple files with extensions .cfg, .cht, .cmt, ..., obc, .prj, ,sym. The new Step 7 software has no idea what to make of this. I have downloaded the program from his Seimens S7 PLC, but without comments or other documentation I can't figure it out, without way to much work than I want to do, or than he wants to pay for. Does anyone know what these are and how I can get them into a step 7 program?

IBN-Service Posts: 8946 Rating: (999)	Usually, the S7-Program is a Archiv file .arj or .zip. It is important not to change the folder structure. With Step7 Manager you should be able to open the .prj file.

I get a long error message that says basically that 4.x does not support the file and I will have to open it in the version that created it. Is there any way to find out which version created it? If so can I get old versions so I can open it? if not, backups are useless. I can't imagine that Siemens doesn't support old pograms so there should be a way to do this.

Deselect Symbolic addressing. 3. Switch to STL view. 4. Save the program. You can now open the File in Microwin V4 (select PRJ as filetype) After opening you can switch to Lad view again. See the following note: Projects created with STEP 7-Micro/WIN Version 2.x or earlier must be saved in the STL editor, using the V2.x Micro/WIN, before they can be opened with STEP 7-Micro/WIN V3.x or V4.x. For this reason, you will find the V2.1 STEP 7-Micro/WIN software in a sub-directory of your installation CD. Best regards, Wizard
