Issues writing to X51 SD card

I have a test script written in JS connected to a button so when pressed creates a test file on the SD card. I then check doc viewer app & file browser apps but I see no indication that it wrote successfully, any ideas? export function Button_1_OnTapped(item, x, y, modifiers, trigger) { let filePath = `/home/data/test_export.csv`; let fileContent = "Test from runtime."; HMIRuntime.FileSystem.WriteFile(filePath, fileContent, "utf8").then(() => { HMIRuntime.Trace("□ Write to SD card succeeded."); }).catch((err) => { HMIRuntime.Trace("□ Write to SD card failed: " + err); }); }

Are you sure the SD card is available to the system? You can use the File Browser app to check whether the SD card is visible there. Please also note that the data you write to the file is buffered by the operating system. It takes some time for the data to be physically written to the SD card. Since Unified Comfort Panels do not offer a reliable way to safely eject the SD card, you should only remove it after restarting the system to ensure that all buffered data has been written. It seems like there is a lack of permissions even when my admin user has all the permissions needed. However, they are mounted differently depending on the file system used. The SIMATIC SD cards use FAT32 by default, your other card may use NTFS. From a scripting perspective, this has no effect because the mount point is always the same. Are you sure that you used the X51 interface for the SD card and not the X50? Kind regards Stefan

It is viewable and the HMI recognizes it but it is not writable or at least I havent found any path that is writable using JS. I inserted one of my own FAT32 SD cards and that worked instantly. Maybe the Simatic SD card is formatted in FAT16 or a different format? - it is just completely unwritable. Thanks.

Murof Platinum Expert Joined: 8/3/2009 Last visit: 9/2/2025 Posts: 16290 Rating: (1930)	Hello Cmac987 The 2GB SD Card from Siemens has a special file system, if you format it you cannot use the advantages any more (and you cannot use this also for Systemcard in WinCC Comfort Panels after that): https://support.industry.siemens.com/cs/ww/de/view/95853895 -> try the way from the FAQ for clearing the Card. Check if you do not have switched the hardware write protection switch on the Card. Perhaps then it work Bye Murof
