Precision Time Protocol with PLC

Is it possible to implement the Precision Time Protocol (PTP) with this PLC to sync underlying periphery devices? I know that NTP can be implemented but do not know how PTP can be. Any help would be much appreciated.

dchartier Grandmaster-Expert Joined: 9/27/2006 Last visit: 9/11/2025 Posts: 12407 Rating: (2717)	Hello S7_Pseudonym; The S7-1500 communication manual contans this information (see the screenshot below) on IEEE 1588-based PTCP protocol over Profinet: https://support.industry.siemens.com/cs/ca/en/view/59192925 It looks therefore that Siemens developpers have considered the integration of Precision Time Protocol with S7-1500 PLCs. However, the PTCP description only descibes the configuration that would b necessary to implement it, and there are no FAQs or Application notes in SIOS giving specific descritions of PTCP integration.. If you want to research this further I would recommnd starting a Support Request (link at the top of this page) so that you can ask a Siemens communications specialist for more information.
