Wondering if anyone might be able to help?

I am experiencing problems uploading the program from a Siemens S7-1500 CPU. Unfortunately, I do not have the original project files and so having to tread carefully and not jeopardise the current state of the machine.

Software & Hardware:

STEP 7 Professional V18 (Update 5) 

CPU 1511-1 PN (V2.8) 

KTP400 Basic HMI.

When I go online and upload device as new station the hardware is recognised and the program blocks are visible, however they have a red symbol and a hover text “The program on the CPU is incompatible with the STEP 7 project. Version of the program on the CPU: V15.1 -> Version of the STEP 7 project : V18" 

To resolve this, I am contemplating updating the firmware on the CPU to V2.09.08 as, from what I have read elsewhere, this seems to be the first thing to try but I don’t want to risk this if it is not necessary.

Any help or advice on this subject would be greatly appreciated.
