Modbus, ASCII, proprietary... It is important to determine if WinCC Flexible is able to talk the same protocol in order to exchange data with each meter. -Second, RS-232 is a point-to-point physical layer, designed to setup communications between 2 partners only, at a max. distance of 15m. So that would be one meter and your PC running WinCC Flexible runtime. In order to have more partners on RS-232 you have to either use RS-232 to RS-485 converters on each meter and on the PC COM port, and convert to RS-485 (max. 32 nodes, max. distance 1000m, B&B and Blackbox make very good ones, amongst others); or you could use a port expander (once we used a single COM port expander with 18 virtual ports from Digi link, but that is the largest I remember finding). Use Google to look for COM port expanders, see what you can find. In any case you have much research andwork to do before you get this working. Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier
