inconsistent OPC paths

kshahzad Posts: 4 Rating: (0)	I am running into weird problem (I am new to Siemens products so please bear with me). I am setting up several independent test stations consisting of PC with WinLCRTx , S7, soft PLC with simatic net opc server and connecting to OPC server via my own OPC client developed in java. I am using OPC client to perform sets and gets and automate the hardware testing. Every thing seems to work fine except my OPC paths are not consistent from one PC setup to another. For example on one test PC I may have paths like this (pcname.WinLC RTX.ioTag for example L3AF0EA.WinLC RTX.Pulse 100 msec ) and on another PC my OPC paths are like (WinLC RTX.Pulse 100 msec) no PC name in the front. My third variation is where on the same PC I have mix of both, some paths have PC name up front and some paths does not. This is causing problems because I will be setting up quite a few of these test PCs I would like to have consistent OPC paths that will help with automation and also keeping up with the test scripts. All the PCs have same hardware and same set of software. Every thing is installed on the stand alone PC along with the OPC client so I have no problem communicating with OPC server or R/W to OPC tags the only thing is that tags are not consistent as described above and don't know what is causing it.

Per your second question every thing is onone stand alone PC (XP), WinLCRTX,SoftPLC, S7 etc along withOPC server and the OPC client. I am using custom OPC clientto automate testing. The PC name I am referring to is the name of the stand alonecomputer itself.The PC is interfacing with the hardware over the Profinet and that I have no problem with and also performing sets and gets via OPC client has no problem either. The only problem is that since I will have several (replicas same setup)independent test PCs deployed at different geographic locations would like to get myOPC paths the same (consistent) so the management of the test scripts and their deployment to these independent test PCs is not nightmare. So in a summary every thing is in one box and there is no need for communication from one computer to another computer over TCP/IP. Best Regards KS

The Symbols you create with STEP7 depend on the Name of the PC Station you use... maybe this is already the Key you need to control. Best regards J_Bell
